Q: What is the purpose of DISCo’19?

DISCo is designed to be a stepping stone for DEN CDT students to be able to submit work to a supportive and bespoke conference that fits their research areas. We as DEN students recognise that it is sometimes difficult to find areas to publish in when our research is so interdisciplinary, and a submission – particularly a first one – can be a very daunting prospect. This is why we have developed this conference as an opportunity for every DEN student to be able to contribute work (whether that’s in the form of a poster, short paper or long paper), give or experience a peer review, and present their work in a trusted environment!

Q: Can I go if I’m not a DEN CDT member?

Yes! DISCo’19 is like any other PhD and early career conference, everyone is invited to submit and attend! Accepted short and long paper authors can apply for a DISCo scholarship if they do not have funding.

Q: Have you extended the deadline?

We have! As there was some confusion surrounding the 29th of April deadline, we are accepting workshop proposals and paper submissions until May 20th.

Q: What is the difference between a short and long paper?

Q: Do I HAVE to bring a poster?

No, you don’t have to! However, we encourage all attendees of the conference (who want to) to present a poster; you can simply notify us when you register for the conference, and then bring it along on the day! Join in on our #PosterParty!

Q: What do you mean by ‘Completed Paper Submission’ ?

The deadline on the 31st July is for the final papers: You make a submission for the 20th May deadline, it gets peer reviewed, and then you have a chance to revise and make changes, and that changed version is due on the 31st July!

Q: How can I keep up to date with any changes?

You can keep up with all DISCo’19 news via our website or our social media pages! We are active on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter! We also answer questions messaged to us through these platforms.

Q: Can I apply for a Scholarship? Do I need to be a DEN CDT member?

  • Accepted submissions who are in need of funding are invited to apply for DISCo scholarships, which cover conference registration fees and travel (up to £500).
  • You don’t have to be a DEN CDT member to apply for funding! For more information visit our Scholarships page

Q: Do I need to be a DEN student to volunteer?

No, you don’t have to be a DEN student. If you would like to support us in any of these areas, or just in general, please get in touch at contact@den-disco.com.
